SS 301
It is austenitic stainless steel having the ability to achieve high strength and ductility via moderate and cold working treatment. It can be employed for use in automobile rims, cars of railway coaches, metal fixtures involved in construction, roof drainage products, tableware, storm door frames, conveyor belts, etc.
SS 304
It is the most extensively used austenitic stainless steel and has excellent corrosion resistance and forming characteristics. It is basically employed in petrochemical, chemical and fertilizer industries. The steel equipments are used in dairy, food processing, pharmaceutical industries, in hospitals, as kitchenware in households, sink cutlery, cryogenic vessels and also employed as heat exchangers in air conditioning/ refrigeration, for machinery used in paper pulp, textiles, beverage sectors, etc.
SS 304L
It is an austentic stainless steel which is similar to SS 304 but however has less carbon content. (0.03%) . It is basically used in the place of SS 304 for its improved resistance to inter-granular corrosion and also employed in applications where structures cannot be heat treated for relieving of stress after welding. It has less tendency to harden.
SS 310S
These are the austentic stainless steel with a higher content of chromium and nickel in comparison to SS 309. As a result of their relatively high creep strength and mechanical properties at higher temperature these steel find applications in high temperature and severe service conditions. It is mainly used for air heaters, annealing boxes, ovens, carburizing boxes, fire box sheets, furnace lining, furnace stacks and dampers, gas turbine parts, heat exchangers, kiln linings, nozzle diaphragm assemblies for turbo jet engines, oil burner parts, paper mill equipments, oil refinery equipment, recuperators,etc.
SS316
It is an austenitic stainless steel with 2.0 to 3.0 % Molybdenum which enhances corrosion resistance against halogens and also gives hot strength characteristics. It is basically employed in applications requiring resistance to pitting corrosion and in halogen atmospheres. Typical applications involve architectural trims, marine exteriors, chemical processing equipments, food processing equipments, petroleum refining equipment, pharmaceutical equipment, photographic equipment, pulp and paper processing equipment, textile finishing equipment, pollution control, etc.
SS 316 L
It is recommended in place of 316 in case weldability has to be improved.
SS 321
As authentic stainless steel similar to SS 304 but established with titanium to avoid intergranular corrosion. Type SS 321 resists scaling and vibration fatigue. It is used for aircraft exhaust stacks and manifolds, pressure vessels, large mufflers for stationery diesel engines, carburetors, expansions bellows, stack liner, fire walls super heaters etc.
SS 409/409M
It is the lowest alloyed straight Chromium ferritic stainless steel. It is basically used to replace carbon steels and low alloy steels where some amount of heat or corrosion resistance and higher strength is required and appearance happens to be secondary. It is used as fins in heater tubes, transformer and capacitor cases, resonators, silencers, pipes and emission control units, dry fertilizer spreaders, automotive exhaust system including mufflers, high pressure agricultural spray tanks, shipping containers, culverts, farm equipment,etc.
